Dragon Boat Racing Challenge Weymouth Beach Sun 24th August 2014

Dragon Boat Racing Challenge Weymouth Beach Sunday 24th August 2014

The Annual Dragon Boat Challenge is taking place this year on Weymouth Beach on Sunday 24th August 2014

Times should hopefully go like this

10.00 Racing commences
15.00 Racing finishes
15.30 Prize giving

The competition raises money for local charity through entry fees, but it is free to watch for the public. The organisers have asked me to say that they will be collecting for "Shelterbox" on the Esplanade and would appreciate your support on the day.

Weymouth Fireworks Display Bank Holiday Monday 25th August 2014

Weymouth Fireworks Display Bank Holiday Monday 25th August 2014
Of all the mistakes the local council has made with tourism, in my opinion cancelling the fireworks on Monday's through August was the biggest of the lot.

I watch all the keywords that effect Weymouth, I can tell you quite easily the most used/searched key word phrase for 2013 was "Weymouth Fireworks" or a combination including those two words. Far higher than the carnival, and far far higher than the pavilion. No 1 by a long way. Thousands keyed in that phrase in 2013, thousands. Thats just the internet of course.

So it was with great delight that the news is the council have again been bailed out by the troops, yet again.

Phil Say to the rescue again, he has come up with a plan to bring in Weldmar to be the Charity to benefit from any profit and have key Weymouth businesses to the area, or businesses that just want to be involved to help to sponsor the event.

He has so far secured the sponsorship from

Weymouth Pavilion
Alexandra Gardens
Aura
The Boat Cafe
Kings Group
The Lazy Lizard
The Dorothy Inn
Cactus Tea Rooms
Weyline Taxis

The Nook

Pains Fireworks
Apex Divers

Chesterman & Matthews

So many thanks to the above that is exceptional community help that you are giving, and it will benefit the town, and I for one on Whatsonweymouth  (as small as it may be) will ensure you guys get every possible exposure to make your contribution known.

Hopefully there may be more come in as well, so please email whatsonweymouth@yahoo.co.uk if you join up or the list is out of date. It is important that sponsors get recognition.

The display will be on the evening of  Bank Holiday Monday 25th August 2014  same day as Weymouth v Dorchester so fireworks all day long!  They will take place at 9.30pm

Note the only other display will be held after the Carnival at 9.30pm on 20th August 2014 this is being organised by the Carnival Team.

Victorian Fayre Nothe Fort August Bank Holiday 23rd 24th August 2014

Victorian Fayre Nothe Fort August Bank Holiday 23rd 24th August 2014

The Nothe Fort in Weymouth is now expert at transforming the place back in time, and over the Bank Holiday 23rd and 24th August open from 10.30am until 4pm they will be going back to Victorian Times.

The two day period will be packed full of events, many interactive.
Sideshows include: Hoopla: Coconut Shy and Stocks: Also Stone Carving:  Victorian Treasure Hunt: Victorian School Room: Face Painting: Maypole Dancing: Fossil Painting: Victorian Crafts & Food Stalls:
Throughout the day there will be live cannon firing displays - So plenty of loud bangs and the chance to inspect the guns at close quarters. A great day out for all the family, as well as military enthusiasts.
The entrance charge is still very competitive at £5 Adults £3 Children
There is a Car Park up at the Fort but can be quite busy walking up is much more fun. Go over the main Weymouth Town Bridge, down the Harbourside, past Brewers Quay (worth a stop on route) past the Lifeboat Station and then you will see steps up to Nothe Gardens and the Fort, a great walk and much better than driving I assure you.

Palm House Cafe Bistro Activity Centre and Children's Play area Weymouth

The Palm House has all sorts of interesting things packed into the deceptively large building and grounds.

Everyone has seen the Palm House from the outside but I don't think everyone has been inside, and it is definitely worth a look.

For Visitors It is right next door to the Gurkha Restaurant right by Westham Bridge so it's a great location. (DT4 7TZ)

It is a classical Edwardian Glasshouse and it is surrounded in gardens that have some lovely decking with comfortable outdoor seating which is very pleasant on a nice day.

Once inside there are separate areas, and of course one of the most popular is the cafe.

The menu is brilliant!  Panini's - Sandwiches - Full English breakfasts - Jacket Potatoes - Lasagne - Nacho's - HotPot's - Home Made Soups - Fresh Pastries - Muffins - Scones - Crisps - Fresh Fruit - Ice Cream Specials - Tea - Coffee Cappuccino - Latte - Healthy Smoothies - Thick Shakes - Homemade Dorset Cream Teas and more! So plenty of choice!! They have a great children's menu as well by the way.

What you might not know is that the Palm House is fully licensed and so can easily hold a function with music and some alcohol!

This picture shows the The Palm Room which can also be hired, in there it is possible to hold a meeting, and would be a good choice to get out of the office, or for a central place to all meet up. As you can see they have a good variety of furniture in good condition to use.

The Palm room then leads through to the Craft centre, this can be used for all sorts of crafts. Also Children can try their hand at different crafts perhaps trying out new methods in a proper craft type environment which is all good experience.

The Craft area is run by a professional crafter called Pam and she can tell you a lot more of what is available here.

There is a huge designated play area for the young ones, the indoor area which you can see on the left, and of course outdoor area on the right. They are all contained with just one entrance. There is also plenty of room for Adults to sit and have a coffee while the young ones play.

There is so much to the Palm House that you might not have seen, they are really friendly here and will help you out. Its a great place to meet others with small children, and it also has other areas that you can sit and relax and have a cup of coffee and something to eat away from the kids if you want. They have some interesting options for a party which you may not have thought about, especially with the bar licence that opens up so many more possibilities.
