Nothe Fort Home Front WWII Weekend 26th 27th July 2014

Nothe Fort Home Front WWII Weekend 26th 27th July 2014
The Nothe Fort will be holding one of its special weekends at the end of July. On the 26th and 27th they have another brilliant history lesson staging a Home Front Weekend.

The Northamptonshire Home Guard will be mounting a display of how it used to be done. Rifle drill and marching practice. They will have lots of war time communications, bomb disposals, rations, and all the things that you associate with the problems that the Home Front had to encounter during World War II

They have a Morse Code system set up, I wonder if they have anyone that can send on it?  Just to let them know I can!  If you want someone to send then just email me.  Anyway they have lots of interesting stands, even a hairdresser, also military vehicles. Also music by the Ukalaleans and the Switch Quartet, and stars from Weymouth at War The Decadettes.

Its tremendous value at £5 and £3 for Children (Under 5's go Free) Its entertaining and also very educational. Great fun. The Fort will be open from 10.30am until 4.30pm both days.

Son et Lumiere Sound and Light Spectacular Nothe Fort 10th - 13th Sep 2014

Son et Lumiere Sound and Light Spectacular Nothe Fort 10th - 13th Sep 2014
Nothe Fort is going to be lit up with a sound and light spectacular that has never been seen before on this scale. The plans are in place to hold a series of four Son et Lumiere events between 10th and 13th Sep 2014

The evenings are going to be huge showcase of local artists, dancers, club and societies. Taking part will be:

The Weymouth Drama Club, Weymouth Operatic Society, Weymouth Operatic Workshop, Weymouth Choral Society, Nothe Fort Artillery, Dance Groups and the Nothe Fort Evacuee Team, that is quite an impressive list!  Its all being directed by local WOW youth musical director and superb choreographer Martine Burt.

You just know if all these clubs and theatre groups get together this is going to be one heck of a show and I fully expect this to be one of the biggest and most dramatic events of Weymouth in 2014.

The show itself will depict the maritime history of Weymouth and Portland from the Armada to the Olympics with actors singers and dancers, cannons bugles and drums. There will be projected images and special effects to create a special atmosphere all over the fort. It will conclude with a Firework Finale.

Tickets are now on sale, but I won't put an online link on just yet, because if you call up at the Nothe you can get an early bird discount. The discount depends on how many tickets you are buying and so to be honest you would be best going here to check out ticket details

The shows are on Wednesday 10th September until Saturday 13th September and they will start at 8pm
